Analysis: Hundley is 10-for-29 (.345) with two homers, seven RBIs and five runs scored in his last nine games.
9/5/2008 Vernon Wells, CF (Tor) Wells homered and drove in a pair of runs on Thursday as the Blue Jays beat Minnesota 9-0.

Analysis: The outfielder has been on a tear the last two weeks. In his last 11 games, Wells is 19-for-44 (.432) with six homers and 15 RBIs, raising his average to .300.
9/5/2008 Shawn Estes, SP (SD) Estes returned to the Padres' rotation and held Milwaukee to one run in six innings of a 5-2 win on Thursday night.

Analysis: Estes made his first start since May 28 because of a broken thumb he suffered when he fell on the tunnel stairs between the team's clubhouse and the dugout May 31. He's 2-1 with a 2.97 ERA in six games - five starts - this year.
9/5/2008 Travis Snider, RF (Tor) Snider hit his first career home run and went 3-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs to help Toronto beat Minnesota 9-0 on Thursday.

Analysis: It hasn't taken Snider long to find success in the major leagues. The rookie, a first-round pick in the 2006 draft, has seven hits in 15 at-bats since being called up.
9/5/2008 Kelly Johnson, 2B (Atl) Johnson doubled, tripled and scored a run in the Braves' 2-0 win over Washington on Thursday.

Analysis: It was the third consecutive multihit game for Johnson, who's 8-for-12 with six RBIs and four runs scored in that stretch.
9/5/2008 Jesse Litsch, SP (Tor) Litsch threw a four-hit shutout and the Toronto Blue Jays completed a three-game sweep with a 9-0 victory over the Twins on Thursday night.

Analysis: In what has been an up-and-down season, Litsch has been back on his game lately. He's 2-1 with a 0.94 ERA in his last four starts, pitching at least six shutout innings in three of those outings. He only struck out three on Thursday, however, and has just 71 strikeouts in 143 2-3 innings this season.
9/5/2008 Shairon Martis, RP (Was) Martis held Atlanta to two runs and four hits in five innings of a 2-0 loss in his major-league debut Thursday.

Analysis: Martis walked five and struck out two. "I think I did pretty well. Five innings. I'm happy with it," said Martis, who pitched for the Netherlands in the Olympics and went 1-2 with a 3.02 ERA in seven starts with Triple-A Columbus before his promotion. "It was exciting. After the first inning, I was feeling more comfortable."
9/5/2008 David DeJesus, CF (KC) DeJesus had three hits in each game of a doubleheader sweep of Oakland on Thursday and scored three times on the day.

Analysis: DeJesus is having a solid year, batting .296 with 10 homers and 60 RBIs, but his production has tailed off recently. He has no homers and six RBIs in his last 32 games.
9/5/2008 Jose Guillen, LF (KC) Guillen had two hits and drove in three runs in the Royals' 9-6 win in the nightcap of a doubleheader against Oakland on Thursday.

Analysis: Still, it's been a struggle for Guillen these last few months, as he's batting .188 with just 12 walks in his last 56 games. He's also had multiple behavioral problems.
9/5/2008 James Parr, RP (Atl) Parr held Washington to two hits in six innings of a 2-0 win in his major-league debut Thursday.

Analysis: The 22-year-old right-hander didn't allow a runner past second base. "What a night he had," manager Bobby Cox said. "He's sneaky quick. He doesn't light up the radar gun, but he's got a little looping curve and a changeup. I was impressed. It's a great way to break in." Parr, who was promoted Tuesday, went 5-3 with a 3.23 ERA with Triple-A Richmond, including 3-0 with a 0.96 ERA in his last three starts. "I didn't want to change anything," Parr said.
9/5/2008 Ryan Sweeney, CF (Oak) After going 0-for-5 in the first game of Thursday's doubleheader against Kansas City, Sweeney was 3-for-4 with three doubles and three RBIs in the nightcap. The A's still got swept, 5-4 and 9-6.

Analysis: Sweeney hopes Thursday night's effort will help him snap out of a slump. He was 14-for-72 (.194) in his previous 17 games, also spending time on the disabled list during that time with a thumb injury.
9/5/2008 Kenny Rogers, SP (Det) Rogers was removed from Thursday's 7-1 loss to the Angels after he gave up four straight singles starting the third inning, his shortest start since he gave up seven runs and got just two outs at Cleveland on July 25, 2006.

Analysis: The 43-year-old left-hander, who allowed six runs and eight hits in two innings, has lost three straight starts and seven of eight. "I'm not tired. I feel fine," Rogers said. "I had no reason for failing. I went out there and didn't get it done. That's the only way to look at it."
9/5/2008 Tom Gorzelanny, SP (Pit) Gorzelanny gave up three runs and seven hits in 3 2-3 innings of the Pirates' 8-6 loss to Cincinnati on Thursday.

Analysis: Gorzelanny is 0-2 with a 7.04 ERA in three starts since he was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis. He's 6-9 with a 6.64 ERA in the majors this year after going 14-10 with a 3.88 ERA in 2007.

9/5/2008 Ervin Santana, SP (LAA) Santana struck out eight in 7 1-3 innings, allowing one run and six hits and moving to 15-5 as the Angels beat Detroit 7-1 on Thursday.

Analysis: Perhaps the most impressive part of Santana's season has been his road numbers. After going 1-10 with an 8.38 ERA on the road in 2007, he's now 10-2 with a 3.16 mark in 16 road starts this year. He's 4-0 with a 2.31 ERA overall since the beginning of August.
9/5/2008 Nate McLouth, CF (Pit) McLouth hit his 24th home run of the season in the Pirates' 8-6 loss to Cincinnati on Thursday.

Analysis: It was the second homer in six games for McClouth, who hadn't hit one in his previous 22 contests. Overall, he's four shy of the franchise record for homers by a center fielder, set by Brian Giles in 1999.
9/5/2008 Scott Kazmir, SP (TB) Kazmir allowed one hit in six scoreless innings of a 7-5 win over the New York Yankees on Thursday.

Analysis: Kazmir hasn't allowed a run in 11 1-3 innings spanning his last two starts - both wins. The Rays are 8-1 in the left-hander's nine starts since the All-Star break, and Kazmir's 4-1 with a 2.92 ERA in that stretch.
9/5/2008 Dioner Navarro, C (TB) Navarro went 4-for-5 with a double and a run in the Rays' 7-5 win over the New York Yankees on Thursday.

9/5/2008 Mike Lamb, 3B (Mil) The Brewers signed Lamb on Friday, hoping to bolster their roster for the final month of the season.

Analysis: A nine-year veteran who has played for Texas, Houston and Minnesota, Lamb hit .233 with one homer and 32 RBIs in 81 games with the Twins this year. He was released Thursday after being designated for assignment, and will not be eligible for Milwaukee's postseason roster if the Brewers advance to the playoffs for the first time since 1982.
9/5/2008 Carlos Quentin, LF (CWS) Quentin has a broken wrist, and the Chicago White Sox said the left fielder will have surgery next week. Quentin was removed from the lineup before Tuesday's game because of what the White Sox described then as a sore right forearm, and he hasn't played since. The team said Friday that he was hurt during Monday's game at Cleveland.

Analysis: A screw will be inserted into the wrist, and he will be re-evaluated in two to three weeks. Quentin is batting .288 with 36 homers and 100 RBIs.
